Aimy's Nonprofit Work
Through my Advertising major and my Business Foundations certificate program I learned about how businesses approach branding issues, development strategy, and project management. Nonprofits are interesting to me because they provide an alternative perspective on the same issues.
Working with nonprofits has also challenged me to think beyond common business practices: where a for-profit company may afford a $300,000 advertising campaign, nonprofits often must think more creatively to get their message and brand out to the public for a much lower budget. Nonprofits also must document all of their spending and represent these facts in a positive light to potential donors. I am interested in nonprofits' attempt at the most efficient and purpose-based spending.
My interest in this area brought me to pursue a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship and Nonprofits from the Bridging Disciplines Program at UT. This is an interdisciplinary program that takes courses from around the university in order to discuss nonprofit issues from several different perspectives.
